Dr. Pam Barger

Assistant Professor of TESOL

Dr. Alan Seaman

Chair, Applied Linguistics and International Education Department 
Professor of TESOL

Dr. Alan Seaman was a featured speaker at the national conference sponsored by Asobed Colegios Cristianos in Bogota, Colombia during the first two weeks of March 2020. In addition to speaking at the conference, he presented an all-day pre-conference workshop for Colombian English teachers, and he visited several bilingual schools to observe classes and collect research data.

In January and February 2020, Dr. Seaman taught two graduate courses in Chiang Mai, Thailand and was a featured speaker at an international education conference, making a presentation on “English as a Lingua Franca and Assessment.”  He also visited former students who are teaching in Tokyo, Japan, including Junko Harada, English Department Char at Tamagawa Seigakuin, a large secondary girls’ school, and Rebecca Babirye an English professor at Tokyo Christian University.

Dr. Cheri Pierson

Associate Professor of TESOL

Dr. Cheri PiersonCheri Pierson taught 2 courses this summer in the Intercultural Studies MA program: INTR 611 Theoretical Foundations for TESOL Methodology (July 14-August 1) and INTR 613 TESOL Classroom Dynamics Practicum (June 9-13) and observed practicum students throughout the Chicago area during June and July. She also chaired the Comprehensive Exams in early August. In addition, she completed the book, Exploring Parables in Luke: Integrated Skills for ESL/EFL Students of Theology, with co-authors, Will Bankston and Marilyn Lewis, The book is published by Langham Literature and will come out later this year. Steve and Cheri celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary (June 30th) at a Swedish lodge located on Lake Superior and helped move her mother-in-law from Germantown, TN to Wheaton. She has begun a new book project and spent a lot of time with her 4 year old grandson, Jordan!

Dr. Pam Barger

ELIC Program Administrator

During the summer, Dr. Barger directed the ELIC/Wheaton partnership program and orchestrated administrative logistics pertaining to the summer modular students in the Summers-Only TESOL program. In August, she went to Colorado to observe the Wheaton/ELIC August TEFL Certificate Program alongside Dr. Alan Seaman.
