TESOL Alumnus Darrin Hetrick ('05) was featured as a guest writer on Tara Arntsen's blog on the TESOL International Association website. As Tara writes to her readers, "Realizing that readers of the TESOL Blog teach in a wide variety of contexts, I invited a colleague... whose students are very different from my own, to share his experiences with technology in the classroom.

For those of you teaching in adult education with limited available technology, his story may seem familiar, but his solution can give you a starting point for introducing your students to technology, too…" Darrin currently teaches as part of the ESL program at Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota.

Congratulations to TESOL graduate student Marie Friesema for receiving 2nd place in the MA category at this year’s poster session for Graduate Student Life Week at Wheaton. Marie’s poster highlighted her pathbreaking research for her MA thesis. Her research study documented the lives of migrant workers at America’s horse race tracks and proposed an innovative ESL program to meet their language and cultural needs. This work was based on Marie’s own teaching and ministry to “backstretch workers” over the past four years at the Arlington and Hawthorne racetracks in the Chicago area.
