"A Beacon of Excellence"

December 12, 2019

This blog features stories about the Wheaton College Graduate School. During his recent visit, Mark Heasman, the Chief Executive of Christian Camping International HoneyRock (home of the M.A. in Outdoor & Adventure Leadership). was named a "Beacon of Excellence".

Last month, we had the blessing of hosting Chief Executive of Christian Camping International (CCI) Mark Heasman at HoneyRock and at the main campus of Wheaton College. Christian Camping International is the flagship international Christian camp ministry organization uniting Christian camps around the globe, including Christian Camp and Conference Association (CCCA) affiliates like HoneyRock. Dr. Muhia Karianjahi, Program Manager for the M.A. in Outdoor and Adventure Leadership (available in a flexible learning format or in a residential format at HoneyRock), represents Kenya on the CCI Board.

HoneyRock, the Outdoor Center for Leadership Development of Wheaton College, exists to build Christ’s church and benefit society worldwide by fostering the development of whole and effective people through transformational outdoor experiences. A pivotal part of the HoneyRock mission is to equip future outdoor and adventure leaders for service in the church, camps, and colleges through the M.A. in Outdoor and Adventure Leadership

Here's what this international leader in the world of camping and outdoor leadership had to say about our facilities and programming:

"A location that holds a special place in the hearts and minds of many around the world. A place where Christian Camping is demonstrated and lived out in a unique way that has been such an example and encouragement to so many. I recently had the opportunity to visit HoneyRock and see this 'beacon of excellence' in person. Godly servant leadership, great facilities, and a real heart to grow and develop standards in Christian Camping globally. I can see why so many hold it in such high esteem. It is a unique place being Wheaton's Outdoor Center for Leadership Development as well as a fully-operational camp and retreat centre; serving both as a camp and a college campus, providing campers with the highest caliber of Christian leaders and giving students an invaluable chance to exercise their newly-acquired skills and knowledge as camp leaders.

It was a true blessing to welcome Mark and to hear his insights into our facilities and programs.
