New Workaround Required to Use Jabber on Your Mobile Device

Effective Date: July 29, 2021 - July 1 2022.

While we continue to encourage all faculty and staff to connect via GlobalProtect VPN while working from off-campus, we no longer have a mobile GlobalProtect license.  This means that people who use Jabber on their mobile devices will need to use a new workaround.

Impact on College Community

Many of you will not notice this change.  But for people who use Jabber on their mobile device for phone calling, you will need to use Jabber on your laptop or else use the built-in VPN client on your smartphone or tablet.

The AIT Service Desk is developing instructions on how to configure an iPhone or Android for our VPN Service, so please contact them if you need to keep using Jabber on a mobile device for the next few months.  They can be reached at ait.service.desk@wheaton.edu or 630.752.4357 (HELP).

Once we switch phone calling to Microsoft Teams in late September, you will no longer need to connect to the VPN to manage your Wheaton phone calls on your mobile device or laptop.

If you have any questions, please contact us at ait.service.desk@wheaton.edu or call 630.752.4357 (HELP).
