Please Wait to Download Big Sur OS 11

Effective Date: November 13, 2020

Apple has officially released its newest version of the mac OS, Big Sur (OS 11). Although this is exciting news, please refrain from downloading and installing Big Sur on college-owned equipment at this time.

We are testing its functionality with our campus systems/software and recognize that there may be complications and capability issues that need to be worked out. It will be very difficult to downgrade an operating system once upgraded and may require an extended period of time where the computer is not available for use.

Key Benefits and Features

Waiting to download and install Big Sur provides:

  • An opportunity for AIT to test its compatibility with other college systems
  • Simplicity for Mac users to only need to upgrade once, with no major downtime for their devices

Impact on College Community

If you download Big Sur before receiving the go-ahead from AIT, it will likely take an extended period of time to downgrade the operating system, during which time your computer would not be available for use.  Please wait until you receive an all-clear message to download.
