  1. Review the workshop or course descriptions by clicking on the website link or by downloading the 1-page PDF summary.
  2. Download and complete the registration form (PDF) for the desired workshop or course.
  3. Send us the completed registration as an email attachment to Dianne.Dow@wheaton.edu.
  4. After receiving your registration form, Dianne will contact you with further details about the workshop or course.

Due to ongoing challenges with COVID-19, Fall 2021 workshops will be in an online format only. We will be holding them via Zoom. While we would prefer a face-to-face format, we are committed to providing you with quality, engaging instruction!

Reach Out With English 30 hour ESL Teaching Certificate: General ESL Certificate

*Offered every Summer
“Reach Out with English” (ROWE) is the name of a one-week intensive summer course, including Basics 101, 102,  and 103,  for a full 30-hour certificate. It may also be taken for graduate credit. It will be a one-week intensive class (30 contact hours) offered virtually via Zoom and face-to-face on campus at Wheaton College if in person participation is feasible.

Reach Out with English (ROWE) will be offered June 6-10, 2022 from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. M-F.

Note: Summer 2022 1-week intensives will be offered ONLINE via Zoom. Determination about a face-to-face option is pending.

Essentials of Teaching English Grammar Certificate

*Offered Summer 2022
Essentials of Teaching Grammar is a non-credit, one-week intensive summer course equipping teachers with basics skills for teaching English Grammar. Participants receive a 30-hr certificate. This is offered every other summer. It consists of 30 contact hours in one-week intensive course, Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Essentials of Teaching English Grammar will be offered June 13-17, 2022 from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. M-F.

Note: Summer 2022 1-week intensives will be offered ONLINE via Zoom. Determination about a face-to-face option is pending.

Registration forms for Summer 2022 1-week intensives will be available in January.

Register for an ESL Teaching WORKSHOP

1-Day Workshops for ESL Teachers

Our One-Day Workshops include Basics 101, 102, and 103 which may be taken for credit certificate (8-hours each) to contribute to a 30—hr ESL teaching certificate. Basics 102 & 103 will be offered again in Spring 2022.

Basics of ESL Teaching 101—Saturday, October 23, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. CDT

This workshop provides a strong foundation for effective ESL teaching. It focuses on both foundational principles of teaching and learning a language as well as practical aspects such as needs analysis and lesson planning. It can be combined with two other workshops (Basics 102 & Basics 103—offered in the spring) for a 30-hour Reach Out with English (ROWE) certificate.

Essentials of One-to-One ESL Teaching 402—Saturday, November 13, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. CST    

This elective, stand-alone workshop focuses on key issues related to best practices when it comes to teaching ESL to individual learners. In addition, we will explore how to best assist learners as they seek to increase their English proficiency. Finally, we will explore sound business principles and logistical aspects of structuring an ESL private tutoring small business.
