Registration Instructions

  1. Review the workshop or course descriptions by clicking on the website link or by downloading the 1-page PDF summary.
  2. Download and complete the registration form (PDF) for the desired workshop or course.
  3. Send us the completed registration as an email attachment to Dianne.Dow@wheaton.edu.
  4. After receiving your registration form, Dianne will contact you with further details about the workshop or course.

Due to the COIVD-19 Pandemic, Spring 2021 workshops and Summer 2021 1-week intensives will be in an online format only. We will be holding them via Zoom. While we would prefer a face-to-face format, we are committed to providing you with quality, engaging instruction!

Reach Out With English 30 hour ESL Teaching Certificate: General ESL Certificate

*Offered every Summer
“Reach Out with English” (ROWE) is the name of a one-week intensive summer course, including Basics 101, 102,  and 103,  for a full 30-hour certificate. It may also be taken for graduate credit. It will be a one-week intensive class (30 contact hours) offered virtually via Zoom and face-to-face on campus at Wheaton College if in person participation is feasible.

Reach Out with English (ROWE) will be offered June 7-11, 2021 from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. M-F.

Note: Summer 2021 will be online only via Zoom. We hope to resume the face-to-face option Summer 2022 on the campus of Wheaton College.

Essentials of Teaching English Pronunciation Certificate

*Offered summer 2021
Essentials of Teaching English Pronunciation is a non-credit, one-week intensive summer course equipping teachers with basics skills for teaching English Pronunciation. Participants receive a 30-hr certificate. This is offered every other summer. It will be a one-week intensive class (30 contact hours) offered virtually via Zoom and face-to-face on campus at Wheaton College if in person participation is feasible.

Teaching Pronunciation will be offered June 14-18, 2021 from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. M-F.

Note: Summer 2021 will be online only via Zoom. We hope to resume the face-to-face option on the campus of Wheaton College for future offerings.

Essentials of Teaching English Grammar Certificate

*Offered Summer 2022
Essentials of Teaching Grammar is a non-credit, one-week intensive summer course equipping teachers with basics skills for teaching English Grammar. Participants receive a 30-hr certificate. This is offered every other summer. It consists of 30 contact hours in one-week intensive course, Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Register for an ESL Teaching WORKSHOP

1-Day Workshops for ESL Teachers

Our One-Day Workshops include Basics 101, 102, and 103 which may be taken for credit certificate (8-hours each) to contribute to a 30—hr ESL teaching certificate. Basics 101 will be offered again in Fall 2021. 

 

Basics of ESL Teaching 102—Saturday, March 20, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

This workshop builds on the topics in the Basics 101 workshop and focuses on the critical area of teaching oral skills. Sessions include teaching conversation, pronunciation, and listening comprehension.  It can be combined with two other workshops (Basics of ESL Teaching 101 and Basics of ESL Teaching 103) for a 30-hour Reach Out with English (ROWE) certificate.

Basics of ESL Teaching 103—Saturday, April 24, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. 

This is the final workshop in the Basics series. It focuses on a variety of topics including 1) how to teach grammar to ELLs 2) how to assess learners’ progress 3) how to effectively teach literacy / lower proficiency level learners and 4) how to select effective materials that meet the needs of your learners. It can be combined with two other workshops (Basics of ESL Teaching 101 and Basics of ESL Teaching 102) for a 30-hour Reach Out with English (ROWE) certificate.
