Mary Vanhoozer, DMA

Prep Piano

On Faculty since 2023

CSA Instructor since 2023

A dedicated teacher, Mary is committed to helping students gain a deeper love and understanding of music, develop a vision to share live music with local community, and cultivate an appreciation for the craft of performance. She is delighted to begin teaching traditional piano at CSA this year!

Mary made her solo debut with the Lake Forest Symphony Orchestra after winning the Lake Forest Concerto Competition in 2002. She went on to perform with the Wheaton College Symphony Orchestra as a finalist in the Wheaton Concerto Competition. In her graduate studies, she performed a solo recital in the Chicago Cultural Center as a winner of the Musicians Club of Women competition. Her debut solo piano album, featuring the complete keyboard partitas of J. S. Bach and a new commission by composer Josh Rodriguez, was selected as a finalist in the 2022 American Prize.

An avid hurdy gurdy player and enthusiast, Mary debuted on hurdy gurdy with the critically acclaimed LA based Ciaramella Ensemble playing a concert of renaissance dances live on KUSC radio in 2021. She can also be heard playing hurdy gurdy on the GRAMMY winning original game soundtrack Assassin's Creed Valhalla: The Siege of Paris by Stephanie Economou. Mary loves to bake, read novels from 19th century English authors, and spend time with her composer husband Josh Rodriguez and mini schnauzer Penny.
