Mindy Rak, Ph.D.
Physics and Engineering Lab Associate
On Staff since 2019
Dr. Rak’s interest in physics began in high school and grew during her undergraduate years as a Physics and Math major at Wheaton College. After graduating from Wheaton in 2013, she completed her Ph.D. in Physics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2019 and was part of the team that discovered a new form of matter, “excitonium.” Her research in condensed matter physics focused on measuring the collective excitations in materials using inelastic electron scattering. Outside of work, Dr. Rak enjoys spending time with her husband (also a Wheaton grad), cooking, reading mystery books, hiking in National Parks, and playing board games.
