1 year/3,000 hours of postMaster's supervised experience in professional counseling.
Aspiring LPCs must have completed a master’s or doctoral program in social work, marriage Students graduating from the Wheaton College CMHC CACREP accredited program meets the requirements in this state as of July 22nd, 2024.

Educational Requirements
Person who is granted a temporary/provisional authorization by the board to offer counseling services under supervision to meet the experience requirement; valid for 3 years.
Master's degree, certificate in advanced graduate studies, or doctoral degree in mental health counseling or allied field from a recognized educational institution.
Completion of 60 semester hours (or 90 quarter hours) within the graduate counseling/therapy program, coursework in 8 core areas, a supervised practicum (12 semester hours), and one calendar year of a supervised internship consisting of 20 hours per week in counseling.
Specific coursework required in 8 out of 10 areas:
1. Basic counseling theory
2. Assistance process
3. Human development & dysfunctional behavior
4. Occupational development
5. Group counseling process
6. Assistance & evaluation
7. Social & cultural grounds
8. Theory & practice of investigation
9. Ethical & professional issues
