Assistant Professor-Neuroscience-Biological and Health Sciences

Job Description

The Department of Biological and Health Sciences (BHS) at Wheaton College (IL) seeks candidates for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Neuroscience, starting in August 2024. A PhD in neuroscience, psychology, computer science, or a closely-related field is preferred. Candidates from all areas of neuroscience are encouraged to apply.  Current facilities include EGI high-density EEG, portable and in-lab NIRx functional near-infrared spectroscopy, Tobii eye-tracking, and equipment to collect peripheral psychophysiological data.  The department also houses a vivarium for animal husbandry, associated animal lab testing areas, cell culture capabilities, fluorescence microscopy, qRT-PCR machine, and Cryostat to perform cell/molecular work.  The successful candidate will join a dedicated team of teacher-scholars in a Division that plans to expand teaching and scholarly opportunities in bioinformatics, neuroscience, and public health as part of a College-wide strategic investment process.  

The Assistant Professor will be involved in developing an expanding curriculum in the neurosciences and is expected to (1) teach introductory neuroscience courses and associated laboratories, (2) coordinate the introductory neuroscience laboratories (plan the laboratories and manage the laboratory teaching assistants), (3) teach 1-2 additional upper-level neuroscience courses in the candidate’s area of expertise, and (4) teach 1-2 other courses as-needed in the Biological and Health Sciences Curriculum (e.g., Introduction to Biology, Research Methods).

Assistant Professor-Nutritional Science

Job Description

The Department of Biological and Health Sciences (BHS) at Wheaton College (IL) seeks candidates for an appointment as a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Nutrition starting in August 2024. A PhD in nutritional science, biochemistry, genetics, neuroscience or closely-related field is preferred, but candidates from all areas of nutrition are encouraged to apply.  Current facilities include cell culture capabilities, fluorescence microscopy, qRT-PCR machine, HPLC, and DEXA scanning. The department also houses a vivarium for animal husbandry and associated animal lab testing areas.  The successful candidate will join a dedicated team of teacher-scholars in a Division that plans to expand teaching and scholarly opportunities in biochemistry, conservation and health ecology, neuroscience, and public health as part of a College-wide strategic investment process. 

The Assistant Professor will be expected to (1) teach our required introductory upper-level nutrition course, preferably from a cellular/molecular perspective, (2) teach 1-2 additional upper-level nutrition courses in the candidate’s area of expertise, and (3) teach 1-2 other courses as-needed to support the Biological and Health Sciences curriculum (e.g., Introduction to Biology, Research Methods, Capstone) and our innovative General Education (“Christ at the Core”) curriculum.

Assistant Professor-Ecology and Organismal Biology

Job Description

Wheaton College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Biological and Health Sciences to begin Fall 2024. An appointment at the Associate level may be considered depending on qualifications of the applicant. Members of groups traditionally underrepresented in biology are strongly encouraged to apply.

We seek a colleague dedicated to engaging undergraduate instruction in a liberal arts setting, supporting the general education curriculum and coursework in organismal biology with an emphasis in zoology, ecology and/or conservation biology. 

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Biology or related field (Ecology, Conservation, or Zoology) and have experience teaching biology at the undergraduate level. Additionally, candidates must be committed to deepening intercultural competence on Wheaton College’s campus by engaging in culturally responsive pedagogy that challenges and supports every member of the college’s diverse student body. Faculty are expected to teach 6 courses a year, maintain an active and productive program of scholarship that engages Wheaton undergraduate students, and participate in institutional service to the college.
