"I was invited to work on a team with other students to create a beautiful project that might impact others. I see it being something that will help me be more comfortable recording and producing music alongside others, and as we work together more, to help each other put words to our stories when some of us have trouble doing so."

Intercultural Arts and Media

Director: Stevener Gaskin

Storytelling Project is a student leadership team housed within the Intercultural Arts and Media at Wheaton College. The mission of Storytelling Project is to equip and charge student artists toward using the platform of storytelling and artmaking as a tool to illustrate the image of God so that Wheaton College will be a place where the invisible God is seen through the recognition of a unique story within each student. STP’s motivation is to bring awareness to the importance of celebrating the beauty of the gospel while also advancing unity within the Kingdom of Jesus Christ.

The vision of STP was birthed from the desire to see and hear every student and for every student to see and hear each other. Commonly referred to as “the box,” Studio 1:27, an extension of STP, is a self-use video recording booth that captures the stories of our community, giving space for students to be seen and heard.

We believe that when you understand people differently, you see the heart of God differently, which, in hope, leads us to love neighbors, as well as the God of Creation. Genesis 1:27 is the scripture anchor within Storytelling Project, which reads, “so God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”

Storytelling Project + is another extension of STP, created from a yearning to focus primarily on sharing the stories of students, especially through music. By curating a team of diverse voices and unique artistic styles, STP+ consists of a collective community that reflects the beauty of God. Their efforts document the journey of our human experience through worshipful music-making. From working together, this team is producing an eclectic music compilation project entitled, Scrapbook Stories 107. Our desire is to reflect Psalm 107:1-3 which reads, Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story— those he redeemed from the hand of the foe, those he gathered from the lands, from east and west, from north and south."

The hope behind this student-led studio album is to encourage our Wheaton College community and others way beyond our campus bubble. Through these efforts, we strive to see students within their artistry and leadership development and desire to make God known to all willing to see and hear.
