Middle-Grade Language Arts
Elementary Education
Any elementary teacher candidate applying for an initial Illinois Professional Educator License and seeking a subsequent middle-grade English Language Arts endorsement to be added to license will need to
- complete18 semester hours of approved language arts-related coursework at Wheaton, including EDUC 214 Books for the Middle-School Reader and ENG 325 Methods of Teaching Middle-School English Language Arts
- pass the middle-level English Language Arts content exam. This is in addition to the passing the elementary content exam
- complete a Wheaton-approved practicum in a middle school
Any English Language Arts course counted toward the middle-grade endorsement must have a final grade of C- or higher.
Secondary Education
Secondary Education students who are also English majors will automatically receive the middle-grade English Language Arts endorsement as part of their program; however, they will need to pass the state middle-level English Language Arts content exam.
