From Debate Team to Arena Theater/Workout to internships and consortium programs, there are many opportunities to get involved and hone your communication skills in the Comm Department.

Courses and Requirements

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication requires a total of 36 hours.

Students may choose from one of the following content areas:

  • Collaboration & Interpersonal Relationships: Explore how meaning develops between people in personal, social, and workplace relationships, contributing to growth, opportunity, empowerment, and connection.
  • Media, Culture & Performance: Engage with the world of symbols and meanings, texts and contexts, form and content from performative, critical, and cultural perspectives in order to be a more intentional creator and consumer of culture.
  • Strategic Messages: Construct other-centered messages that reflect an awareness of and adaptation to specific audiences and diverse communication contexts.

Spoon River Production Arena Theater

Arena Theater

At Arena Theater, you can serve God and neighbor in a theatrical community. Our program combines rigorous classes, an opportunity to be part of the production team for each show, and an acting ensemble which creates a truly unique theater education that emphasizes artistic growth and communal creation.

Our faculty bring a rich and diverse blend of expertise across interpersonal, rhetorical, relational, ethical, and performance-oriented domains. Students in the Communication department experience a well-rounded program, combining classic speaking and writing skills, relational and interpersonal communication research, performance and media applications, all deeply grounded in Christian ethics and kingdom values.
