The Biblical and Theological Studies Department Perspective
Students will be able to integrate their faith with their liberal arts learning only when they have clear understanding of what the Christian faith entails. The curriculum of undergraduate Biblical and Theological Studies is designed to help students acquire this understanding, and so the task of integration stands at the very heart of the department.
Because integration is a two-way street, undergraduate Biblical and Theological Studies faculty embrace the following distinct practices involved in pursuing biblical and theological study in a liberal arts context:
- readily seek out contributions from other disciplines as they engage in the work of biblical studies, theology, and archaeology
- create and frame every course and assignment with the liberal arts in mind
- seek to help students embrace the entire spectrum of human knowledge, culture, and experience
- model this embrace as they listen to and learn from other disciplines.
These interdisciplinary conversations are approached as both necessary and mutually enriching, such that a liberal arts education is seen as both enriching and propelling a life of discipleship to Jesus Christ.
