Men's Glee Club

General content 2

Truth. Integrity. Brotherhood. These are the core values that comprise Wheaton’s only all-male choral ensemble, the Men's Glee Club.

Known for its tradition, The Men’s Glee Club (MGC), now directed by Dr. Jerry Blackstone, continues to involve men in life-changing experiences. Founded in 1907, the group is comprised of around 60 men who hail from many different areas of study and many different parts of the world. Over the past 100+ years, this brotherhood has developed a rich cultural heritage including a custom of members referring to each other as "Old Man". Now members old and new can stay in touch through the Old Man Association (OMA).

The Club performs a wide range of sacred and secular repertoire, from the traditional MGC processional “Rise Up, O Men of God!” to spirituals and motets.

Truth. Integrity. Brotherhood.

These pillars encompass and define the community of Wheaton’s all-male choral ensemble.

Truth refers to the Club's foremost and undying commitment to the truth of the Gospel of the Christ Jesus.

Integrity derives from a life of truth in being whole and undivided. The Club strives for unity among its members and among its relationship to the rest of the campus and the world.

From integrity, brotherhood is born, a love that binds brothers together through their love of Christ.

Testimonials

“Glee Club was easily the most transformative and influential experience of my time at Wheaton. To be able to praise God through song surrounded by godly men—there’s nothing else like it.” - Ed Bedard, President Emeritus ’12

“When I was at Wheaton I took on a lot of work. I had two majors in German, and International Relations, plus an Economics minor. I don't think I could have made it without my 4 years in the Glee Club. Making incredible music with my brothers in Christ was a refuge I wouldn't have traded for anything.” - Daniel Fuglestad, Old Man ’14

“‘Rise up, O Men of God!” This anthem of the Men’s Glee Club summarizes its mission and focus for all who join. Glee Club is nothing short of a brotherhood of men that seek to praise God with their voices. Not being a music major, I joined the choir my freshman year as an outlet to balance my academics. Yet what I found was a community that challenged and supported me throughout my four years at Wheaton. I will forever be thankful for the Glee Club as it was one of the most influential parts of my Wheaton experience. So ‘as brothers of the Son of Man, Rise up, O Men of God!’” - Connor DeYoung, Old Man ’16
