January 2024

From the President

Philip G. Ryken President Wheaton College IL

Dear Parents,

This week, students returned to campus and discovered that Anderson Commons experienced a dramatic transformation over the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. The dining hall now has completely new furniture, with more flexible seating options.

This high visibility project is only one example of Wheaton’s commitment to honor God in the way we maintain our facilities and to provide positive experiences for our students. We hope that you will enjoy the new tables and chairs on your next visit to campus.

In the meantime, please do pray for our faculty, staff, students, and administration as we re-engage our minds and hearts this semester.

In Christ’s service,

Philip Ryken

Collegiate Day of Prayer

Mark your calendars! The Collegiate Day of Prayer, a day set apart to pray for college campuses across the nation, is Thursday, February 29, 2024. Parent Engagement hopes to have hundreds of Wheaton parents lifting Wheaton students and the College in prayer that night. Keep an eye on your inbox for more information about how you can join a Zoom Parent Prayer Call the evening of February 29.

Center for Vocation and Career Sign 825 x 300 Center for Vocation and Career (CVC) Spring Opportunities

Spring semester has kicked off in full force in the Center for Vocation and Career! Our team is gearing up for a busy semester as many students are applying for internships or post-graduate opportunities. We have a full event schedule this semester crafted to provide the best tools and opportunities for students to discover, prepare for, and launch into their next opportunities with confidence.

We will launch our five-part Senior Series early next month with our annual “Nothing Bundt Budgeting” event on February 13, 2024. Alumni experts will provide practical tools and resources to help seniors build a healthy relationship with finances, and the CVC team will offer free bundt cakes to ‘sweeten’ the deal.

Stay tuned for more information about what’s coming up this spring!

Important Update from the College Post Office (CPO)

If you ever mail packages to your student, please note that the College Post Office (CPO) is changing the official mailing address for packages to help alleviate the misdelivery of items to campus. The address for letters will remain the same.

Stethoscope and laptop 825 x 300 Student Health Services

The regathering of students at the start of the semester often brings the sharing of germs. Both influenza and COVID-19 cases are on the rise nationwide, and testing for both is available at Student Health Services (SHS). Provider appointments can be made to care for students, and if either infection is confirmed, we will give a five-day notice of absence for the student to recover. Flu shots are still available at SHS for $30 billed to the student account. Students can email, call, or just walk in to schedule this preventative vaccination.

All spring entrance students’ medical paperwork must be turned in as soon as possible. Please email student.health.services@wheaton.edu or call Student Health Services at 630-752-5072 if there are any questions about this requirement and an SHS staff member will assist with the process.

The Student Wellness Team is planning to host our annual “De-Stress” Fest later this spring to encourage relaxation practices necessary to good health amidst the rigors of college. Therapy dogs, healthy snacks, mindful exercises, and fun crafts are just some of the plans underway to encourage a respite from studies.
