Frequently Asked Questions
Who can join the Refuge Discipleship Group?
This group is curated for students seeking to integrate sexual and/or gender identity under the Lordship of Christ.
What does the group actually do?
Spiritual formation is at the heart of this group. Our weekly times consist of time in God’s Word, prayer for one another, and learning about sexuality and gender together.
What is the time commitment?
We meet weekly for 90 minutes and occasionally for other fun gatherings.
How can I join Refuge Discipleship Group and when do sign-ups close?
Email Eric Larson (eric.larson.01@wheaton.edu), Director of Discipleship, to set up an initial meeting. The group welcomes new members throughout the year.
How is Refuge Discipleship Group different from the community group Refuge?
Although both groups are designed to foster community belonging and faith, the aims of the two groups are distinct. Refuge as a community group is primarily designed for community building, peer solidarity, and resource sharing amongst students. The Refuge Discipleship Group has a more specific discipleship focus, which is why it is facilitated by a staff member.
How do we protect members’ privacy?
We recognize that students navigating these experiences and questions have varying needs regarding privacy and confidentiality. In this setting, we seek to honor students’ unique needs and story.
Is this group a part of DM or different from it?
Refuge Discipleship Group is not officially part of the student-led DM small group organization. However, since Eric Larson leads the group directly, the DM website is a great place to spread the word.
