Ruth Padilla (Eldrenkamp) DeBorst ('87) is currently President of the Latin American Theological Fraternity, serves in Latin America with the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students (IFES) and serves with the Christian Reformed World Missions (CRWM) in San Salvador, El Salvador, working to train and equip local holistic ministries. Ruth serves on the Board of Directors for the International Justice Mission, a human rights agency that rescues victims of violence, sexual exploitation, slavery and oppression. Mrs. Padilla is also a regional speaker for Intervarsity and IFES.

Her formal education includes a BEd in TOESL from Lenguas Vivas in Argentina and an MA in Interdisciplinary Studies from Wheaton College Graduate School.

Ruth's compelling life story includes the murder of her first husband, Neal Eldrenkamp, in front of her and her young children while on the mission field. She says, “life itself, with its inherent pain and joy, has also been a powerful teacher in the hands of a merciful God.” Ruth will draw on these life experiences as she addresses the Wheaton Lectureship in Christian Moral Formation audience on Life Choices: The Heart of Darkness, The Grace of Community and The Heart of Justice. Ruth lives in San Salvador with her husband and six children and enjoys reading, snorkeling, writing and teaching.
