Originally under the umbrella of the Illinois Music Education Association and exclusive to music education majors, the Wheaton Music Teaching and Leadership Organization (WMTLO) was officially established in the fall of 2024. This shift was initiated as an effort to connect all students interested in all aspects of music education, studio administration and pedagogy, conducting, and worship leadership with professional development opportunities. WMTLO hosts exclusive workshops for members to further skills and knowledge in all areas of musical leadership. Recent workshops have emphasized world music pedagogy, musical theatre pit conducting leadership, digital audio workstations, and folk dancing. Membership is open to all majors across campus.
Members of WMTLO are also given tools for and are encouraged to connect with professional guilds in their respective areas of musical interest, such as National Association for Music Education, American Choral Directors Association, Music Teachers National Association, etc.
For more information about how to join WMTLO, feel free to contact President Katie O’Connor or WMLTO advisors Dr. Brady McNeil and Dr. Beth Bauer.
