The Wheaton College Dance team is a club sport that performs poms-style dances at football and basketball games throughout their athletic seasons. Our goal is to foster our love of dance and provide exciting entertainment for game audiences while bringing glory to God!
We seek to create a loving and supportive tight-knit community through regular practices and additional team-bonding events such as movie or baking nights. A team that can care for and encourage one another is one that thrives and performs well! The Dance Team can be a place to form meaningful relationships with other women who share your passion for dance and desire to glorify the LORD with it.
The Dance Team has tryouts in the late spring to determine who will perform at football games. Those selected will begin learning sideline dances through online tutorials over the summer, then use fall practices to polish them and prepare a halftime routine. A second tryout is held in the fall for basketball season, with new members learning the material the same way.
Football season runs September–November, and basketball season December–February. During football, we will perform sidelines, basketball, time-outs, and one halftime show at the end of each season. If you try out in the spring, you can choose to participate in one or both seasons, whatever fits your schedule best.
Haven’t had much previous dance experience? Not to worry! We also have a “Prep Team” you can be placed on after trying out. Prep Team comes to all practices and team events, takes pictures with everyone, and still enjoys the same team community. Instead of performing right away, Prep Team members would wait until the next season, allowing more time to perfect routines and establish comfortability before dancing in front of a crowd.
We would love to have you dance with us! Please feel free to email us with any questions or follow us on Instagram.
