Work Requests Policy

Students who recognize damage or something broken or not functioning correctly in or around their living space should report it to their RAs, GRAs, or RD for repair. In the case of an emergency repair, students should contact their Residence Life staff immediately in-person, calling the on-duty number for their area, or calling Public Safety. Good judgment is a key factor in determining an emergency. The following problems are considered emergencies:

  • Heating and air-conditioning issues (weekend requests are evaluated based on current outdoor temperatures; requests during extreme heat or cold will receive emergency response; mild outdoor conditions may be addressed the next business day);
  • Electrical power failures, such as with fuses, circuit breakers, wiring problems, etc.;
  • Plumbing problems, such as continuous running water from toilet or sinks, any pipe or fixture that is causing or will cause significant property damage due to leakage, any toilet or receptacle that is unusable and is the only one available;
  • Any malfunction in refrigeration equipment, particularly if it will result in damage to its contents;
  • Any roof leak where evidence of water is significant;
  • All gas problems, including problems relighting pilot lights, gas leaks, etc.;
  • All broken windows, doors, and locks which cause security problems or allow the effects of weather indoors; and
  • All elevator repairs or problems.

All work requests must be submitted by an RD, GRA, ARD, or RA.
