Theft Policy

Wheaton College is a community rooted in Lordship of Jesus Christ whose members commit to upholding the highest standards of honesty and integrity in all aspects of campus life. Scripture is clear in its condemnation of theft: "You shall not steal" (Exodus 20:15, NIV)—this is one of the Ten Commandments given by God as a foundation for righteous living within a community committed to following Jesus Christ.

Theft is not compatible with Wheaton’s institutional mission and the character the College seeks to cultivate in every student.

Theft includes, but is not limited to:

  • Unauthorized use or possession of property, accounts, or identity belonging to another person, the College, or any campus organization without authorization;
  • Misappropriation of College funds, including student organization finances or College resources;
  • Accepting items that were unlawfully obtained by a third party;
  • Unauthorized access to computer systems, accounts, or data; and
  • Deceptive practices such as fraud, misrepresentation, or falsification of records.

Students, faculty, and staff should report suspected theft to Public Safety at 639.752.5911.

Alleged violations of the Theft Policy will be addressed according to the Student Conduct Policy. The College reserves the right to report theft to local law enforcement.
