Severe Weather Policy

Occasions may occur when the College finds it necessary to suspend some operations due to severe weather conditions or other emergencies. Decisions to temporarily pivot to remote instruction or cancel select classes will be made by the Office of the Provost (note—decisions to cancel undergraduate and graduate classes will be made independently of each other); decisions to delay office opening times, to provide early releases for staff employees, or to otherwise move to remote work will be made by the Human Resources Department and the Vice President for Finance & Operations; decisions to suspend social, cultural, or athletic functions will be made by those directly responsible for the events.

The office/department making the decision to pivot to remote work/instruction or to suspend certain operations will be responsible to advise all appropriate individuals via email and to contact Public Safety to request notification to the appropriate recipients via the emergency notification system. If no notice is issued, all classes will occur in person, and all employees are expected to report to work.

In most instances, services which are deemed essential will continue, even if classes and other operations occur remotely. These essential services include

  • Public Safety,
  • Food service,
  • Select Facilities services (normally custodial, HVAC, and plumbing),
  • Select Student Health Services, and
  • Residence Life.
