"Wheaton in Chicago is a program for anyone who wants to grow professionally in a new context. Students are challenged to learn outside of a classroom and instead in a city. Through internships, site visits, and cohort living, students see what life could be like post-grad, and they return to campus with unique experiences that enhance continued learning."
- Ailee Viana, WIC Spring 2024
“I choose Wheaton because of its proximity to Chicago, and I'm grateful to experience that geographical advantage for a semester. It completely changes how I will engage with community/ministry when I return to Wheaton."
- Cissy Zeng, WIC Fall 2025
“Wheaton in Chicago creates room for exploration. I don't think I have ever grown more in my sense of self and vocation than I have during this semester at WIC; the support from staff, cohort, and supervisors has been phenomenal in allowing me to engage deeply with the world around me and ask meaningful questions.”
- Isaac Hubing, WIC Spring 2024
“I am not the same after my semester at Wheaton in Chicago. It has been a time of nurturing growth for me; I have been challenged with new learning; and I have been loved and cared for by people of all ages, from two-year-olds to eighty-year-olds!”
- Sarah Leary, WIC Fall 2025
“I would recommend Wheaton in Chicago because there is a lot to learn about people and spaces that is more than learning about it by being in the classroom. With the combination of our internships, Woodlawn Wednesday, art class trips, etc., we get to talk amongst each other about our various experiences. I loved getting to know my cohort while also getting to know the spaces I was constantly occupying.”
- Rickie Gray, WIC Fall 2025
“I would recommend Wheaton in Chicago because of its interdisciplinary structure and how rich it is with knowledge. You have access to all of Chicago through the U-Pass and are exposed to a world-famous city while interning there and picking up valuable skills and experience. The community you form with your cohort is also something that I have learned to cherish.”
- Alexis Goddard, WIC Spring 2024
“One lady approached me while I was waiting for the bus. She told me it would arrive in two minutes, and I smiled and thanked her. She then asked if I took the CTA often, and I said yes—I ride it every Tuesday and Thursday for my internship. To my surprise, she offered me a free 7-day pass, saying she usually gives them to people who might need one. In that moment, I felt so seen and cared for. Encounters like this remind me how deeply neighbors here practice loving their neighbors. I truly appreciate these small but meaningful interactions with people who don’t even know me.”
- Lily Ding, WIC Fall 2025
“Wheaton in Chicago offers an incredible opportunity to get a sense of the ways in which academic learning can truly be integrated into daily rhythms of life. Life in Woodlawn is full of goodness, beauty, and truth, as well as complexity and brokenness, like any place, and that daily life becomes the primary learning experience, which academic work serves to enrich and inform. WIC allows for and encourages a thoughtful, attentive encounter with everyday, present reality-of place, people, and community-in a way that is both comforting and hopeful as well as challenging and thought provoking.”
- Jonathan Porteous, WIC Fall 2025
