What do we do at the Summer Institute?
The WCSI Schedule is comprised of four different categories:
- Classes
- Chapel
- Excursions
- Study Time / Free Time / Enrichment Activities
Classes
The WCSI is an academic program, so classes take center stage. Classes meet in both the mornings and afternoons for one and a half hour sessions, for a total of 3 hours a day. Students will love getting to know our amazing faculty and their classmates.
Chapel
Wheaton College's motto is "For Christ and His Kingdom", so both faith and learning are emphasized. The WCSI students will partake in 9 chapel services during their time at the Summer Institute and really get to experience what being a Wheaton College student is like.
Excursions
With the city of Chicago a short train ride away, two days of the Summer Institute are set aside for some amazing outside of the classroom opportunities. Site seeing, museums, concerts, theatre, sports, etc. are just some of the fun WCSI students have been able to experience.
Study Time / Free Time / Enrichment Activities
Late afternoons and evenings are more flexible time. Of course, since the students are earning college credit, they will be expected to complete homework for their course. However, there is also plenty of down time to visit downtown Wheaton and get some ice cream or Starbucks, or play volleyball or frisbee on the Fischer lawn, or go workout in our facilities, etc. Also, many of the evenings have optional enrichment events such as a Conservatory Faculty Recital, Study and Tea Times in the Stupe, Spoken Word Event, Municipal Band Concert in downtown Wheaton, Movie Nights, Open Mic or Learn from a published author, and Astronomy Night at the Wheaton College Observatory.
