December 2017

Philip Ryken, President of Wheaton College, Wheaton, ILFrom the President

Dear Parents,

Today in the last Chapel before Christmas break we recognized seniors graduating in December. Their significant milestone symbolizes for fellow students the brevity of the college experience, a short time of preparation for all that God has for them in the future.

Last weekend over 200 student musicians, with the combined choirs and Symphonic Orchestra, and guest baritone Stephen Morscheck ’81, presented the 2017 Christmas Festival Concert, “Messiah, Prince of Peace.” This year the Christmas Festival will reach an even broader audience as the 2016 concert, “Love Divine,” airs on public television stations across the United States. Check our online listing to determine if the program will air on your local public television station.

During Advent, through Christmas, and into the New Year we invite you to join the global Wheaton College community in reflecting on the Messiah - Prince of Peace.

We wish you a very Merry Christmas from Wheaton College. The Prince of Peace has come to our troubled world.

Family ConnectionsLooking to connect with Wheaton's parent community?

Join our Wheaton Parent Facebook group:  WHEATON COLLEGE (IL) PARENTS. Many parents are finding this group to be a great place to connect with other parents, to ask questions about student life, and to exchange useful tips and advice. To join, log on to your regular Facebook account, type “Wheaton College (IL) Parents” in the search bar, and from there, request to join and answer the question:  Who is your student and intended graduation year?

For those of you who are already connecting through the Parent Facebook group, we have news:  At the end of each academic year, the Wheaton Parent Facebook group will be taken down and started anew. If you are a current parent, just ask to rejoin the group. If your student is graduating and you wish to stay connected to the College, we encourage you to join another group called “We Pray for Wheaton College, IL.” This group is open to alumni, past parents, current parents, and friends of the College. The purpose of this group is prayer, for all who have been a part of the Wheaton College community in the past, are currently part of the community, and who will be part of the community in the future.

For alumni parents, we also suggest you follow the Wheaton College Alumni Association page for updates and news from the Alumni Association.

Thanks for your understanding and for contributing to the conversation.

It is FAFSA time!

Christmas break is a great time to coordinate with your student to complete the 2018-19 FAFSA together! Wheaton College recommends using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool when completing the FAFSA, which is available online. Beginning with the 2018-19 aid year, the supplemental Wheaton College Institutional Application for Financial Aid is no longer required. The FAFSA is the only application that is required.

AdventThe Wheaton Fund

Join the Wheaton College community as we prepare for the coming of Christ this advent season through an online devotional. Each reading offers thoughts from President Ryken on Messiah, Prince of Peace, whose coming we celebrate this time of year.

This month, as we reflect on what God has done for us in sending Jesus Christ, we are also reminded of all you do for Wheaton College. When you support the Wheaton Fund, you invest in the affordability and excellence of a Wheaton education for each of today’s students. Please consider making a gift to Wheaton this month. Your tax-deductible gift to the Wheaton Fund by December 31, 2017 is essential to our mission and truly appreciated. Thank you for remembering Wheaton College in your year-end giving!

How can you pray for Wheaton this month?

  • Give thanks for the dedication of our new Welcome Center and the many people who helped make that vision a reality.
  • Pray for our students, faculty, and administrators as they wrap up the Fall semester, and that the Lord will give each one energy to finish well.
  • Pray for the Wheaton College community over the Christmas break, that they will find peace and rest as they celebrate the coming of Jesus, the Prince of Peace.

Wishing you a Merry Christmas!
