Wheaton College has filed an application to sell and transfer its radio station license to Educational Media Foundation (EMF). EMF is the parent company for the K-LOVE Radio and Air1 Radio Networks. EMF will operate the station with new call letters upon approval of the application by the FCC.
WETN began broadcasting as an AM station in 1947, and switched to 88.1 FM in 1962. The 250-watt radio station broadcast most recently from its location in the lower level of the Billy Graham Center on the campus of Wheaton College.
The College made the station available for sale in light of the advance of digital technology and a shift to updated formats. Wheaton continues to live-stream chapel services on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 10:40 a.m. via wheaton.edu/chapel. The College also offers live web streams of Conservatory concerts and occasional academic events. Archived Chapel content and Conservatory events are available on the College’s YouTube channel, and Athletics events are broadcast live via athletics.wheaton.edu.
The sales process will take place over the next few months. WETN radio listeners will be able to enjoy a final season of continuous Christmas music programming.
