As an international student, your F-1 status depends on you keeping a few documents valid.
Make sure your I-20 reflects your current situation. Changes in the following must be reported to a DSO.
Reported within 10 days of the change:
- Change of major/program: adding or dropping a major or minor
- Change of degree level
- Change in address
- Name change/marital status
Require your immediate attention:
- Degree level changes
- Graduate major changes
- 1-20 expiration
Making these changes can be very complicated. Make an appointment with a DSO to discuss your plans before you begin the process.
It is your responsibility to remain compliant with immigration and university regulations. Maintaining contact with ISP and GSC and reading your Wheaton email regularly throughout your time here will help ensure you stay in status.
If you are not compliant with regulations, we may be required to terminate your SEVIS record. This is very serious and has negative consequences for you. It will end your ability to stay in the U.S and attend school. The following are reasons for terminating a SEVIS record:
- Unauthorized employment
- Unauthorized withdrawal from classes
- Unauthorized drop below full course of study
- Expulsion and suspension
- Failure to enroll in classes
