Important Information for When You Need It
If you are experiencing a mental health or medical emergency, it’s important to seek help immediately.
A mental health emergency may include:
- Suicidal thoughts, intent, or behaviors
- Thoughts of harming yourself or someone else
- Symptoms of psychosis (hearing or seeing things others do not, severe paranoia, delusional thinking)
- Symptoms of a manic episode (extreme agitation, unusually elevated energy, racing thoughts, or going without sleep for 3 or more days)
A medical emergency may include:
- Chest pain, difficulty breathing, severe bleeding, or head injuries
- Loss of consciousness or seizure
- Any condition that feels life-threatening or requires immediate medical attention
What to Do During Business Hours
If the emergency is happening Monday–Friday during business hours, you can seek help from:
- Counseling Center for mental health emergencies: (630) 752-5321, located in North Harrison Hall, across from Fischer Residence Hall
- Student Health Services for medical emergencies: (630) 752-5072, located in North Harrison Hall, across from Fischer Residence Hall
No appointment is needed for emergencies.
What to Do Evenings, Weekends, or After Hours
If you are experiencing a mental health or medical emergency outside of business hours:
- Call Wheaton College Public Safety at (630) 752-5911
- Public Safety is available 24/7 and can help connect you with appropriate emergency and mental health support.

Sexual Misconduct
If you have experienced or witnessed sexual assault, sexual harassment, dating or domestic violence, stalking, or other forms of unlawful harassment, support, and options are available.
- You may contact the Equity and Title IX team to file a report, discuss supportive measures, and learn about other available resolution options and resources.
- Supportive measures are available whether or not you choose to pursue a formal process.

If You Are Concerned About Another Student or Need Resources For Yourself
If you need support and resources, or become worried about a friend, roommate, or classmate who may be struggling, missing from classes for more than a week, unresponsive to your outreach, or engaging in risky behaviors:
- Contact Public Safety at (630) 752-5911 or call 911 if there is an imminent risk
- If the concern is not urgent but still troubling, you may submit the Student Resource and Support Request Form through the C.A.R.E.S. link found on your Student Wheaton Portal to report a concern or seek resources for yourself or a friend.
- Encourage them to seek help from the offices of Student Wellness, Counseling Center, Student Health Services, Residence Life staff, or Equity and Title IX.
You do not need to be certain that someone is in crisis to ask for help—it is always okay to reach out.
