"Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul." - John Muir
A significant part of the Vanguard Gap Year is learning new perspectives, theories, and skills. This extends from the classroom out into the great outdoors. From rock climbing to canoeing, archery to mountain biking, Vanguards should expect awesome opportunities to get outside and learn new life-long skills in a variety of activity areas. HoneyRock offers a variety of fun and challenging activities:
|Hiking||Stand Up Paddleboarding|
You might ask, "but what do they do in the winter?" Great question! Getting outside doesn't end with the summer temps. Instead, we switch out our shorts for snowpants and keep going! Check out some of our winter activities:
|Cross Country Skiing||Showshoeing|
|Big Hill Tubing||Indoor Climbing|
|Winter Canoeing||Ice Hockey|
You'll notice most of our activities take place outside - this is because we fully believe in the power of transformational outdoor experiences.
The impact of learning these activities is two-fold. First, Vanguards are developing life-long hobbies - healthy ways to stay active and get outside. Second, activity areas serve as a place for building and refining character. Learning how to approach challenging situations, solving problems, teaching others, caring for equipment, and self-confidence are all transferable skills that will serve them well throughout their future.
