Venture at HoneyRock
Dates: June 18 - July 20, 2018
For students entering 11th - 12th grade
Venture exists to develop disciplemakers. It's an opportunity to take the Truth you've learned about God, self, community, and the Church and put it into practice through leading a day camp program alongside an awesome community of your peers. We take your passion for Christ and His Church and give you practical tools to understand your important and unique role. As responsibilities and experiences increase throughout high school, it is important to understand how your gifts and talents can best serve others.
We strongly encourage families to attend Family Day at the end of their camper's session. Getting to the Northwoods of Wisconsin can be a small trek - let us help! Click here to find more information about best routes, lodging, and camper transportation from select cities. Questions? Ask your Program Coordinator, Lucas, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Progress through a leadership transition from leading yourself to leading a team to leading others. Your leadership skills will be built through:
Plan the route and navigate the wilderness on a 5-day wilderness trip of hiking or canoeing to build community, learn skills, have fun, and enjoy creation.
Continued opportunities to work to completing your basic, intermediate, and masters in a favorite outdoor skill.
Lead others through our Day Camp program where you will take on ownership of the planning, prep, and execution of Day Camp as well as taking of the role of a counselor for local children K-3.
An extended Venture Challenge experience on HoneyRock’s high and low ropes course where you will learn about your own leadership style as well as how you work as part of a group.
Participate in daily cabin Bible study, small groups, times of group worship, personal time with the Lord, Saturday large group meetings, Sunday worship and meet 1:1 with your leader for personal discipleship.
Additional Information about Venture
Venture Program registration occurs on a first come - first serve basis, but Venture also requires a special application and an interview for official acceptance. The application process is intended to help both the program leaders and the applicant determine if Venture is the best fit.
Once you have registered for the program and have paid your deposit, you will receive an application and reference form by email. If you have any questions, please contact the Venture Program Coordinator.
Venture Family Day: Venture will host their Family Day on July 19th, 2018, starting with arrivals between 1:30-2 pm. We will spend the afternoon and evening together, and then your campers will stay one last night at camp. The next morning, Friday, you may pick up your camper up at 8 am. Come and visit camp, meet with the counselors, eat a meal with us, and hear about what God has done in your campers' lives.
We hope that family and friends for every camper will come to Family Day. Involvement of a camper's permanent community in supporting the transition from camp to home is essential.
This summer all participants in our high school programs are required to provide their own wilderness style sleeping bag. We are no longer supplying sleeping bags for participants out of our trip locker. We are offering participants the option to purchase a new Marmot sleeping bag for $75; this is $20 less than retail stores. We have chosen this bag because it is the ideal sleeping bag for use in all our high school programs. This fully synthetic, 30-degree rated sleeping bag is warm, versatile, durable and packs easily for use on wilderness trips and campouts. If you are interested in purchasing a sleeping bag please check the box on the registration form. Participants will receive their sleeping bag when they arrive at HoneyRock. Each bag will also have a HoneyRock name tag attached to the zipper pull so it can be easily identified.
