The Multicultural Peace and Justice Collaborative

The Forgiveness Lab 2016-17

Faculty Advisor:  John M. McConnell, PhD

The Multicultural Peace and Justice Collaborative (The MultiPJC) is a collaborative research team that is intentionally multicultural in membership and foci, and seeks to understand:

  • Peace within self, with other individuals, with groups and nations, and with humanity
  • Biblical and Social Justice for the marginalized and oppressed through self-examination, consciousness-raising, advocacy, liberation, and empowerment

Students assist faculty, assist peers, and complete first-author publications/conference presentations. The MultiPJC uses various approaches to science [1. qualitative-experimental–ex post facto, 2. rigor–relevance (i.e., internal vs. external validity), and 3. exploratory–confirmatory continuums], and is broadly focused on how science, faith, practice, diversity, peace, and justice intersect.

The MultiPJC has several current priorities and initiatives:

  • Maintain and Expand Diversity of Members
  • Budgeting and Grant Funding for Empirical Projects
  • Improve Funding for Members’ Education

The MultiPJC has two current collaborative projects students are involved in, including:

  • Promoting Social Justice, Peace, and Racial Reconciliation
  • Moral Injury in US Military Active Duty Personnel and Veterans

The MultiPJC also has several potential projects students could be involved in, including:

  • Neuroimaging of Forgiveness
  • Restorative Justice for Current and Formerly Incarcerated Individuals
  • Peace and Justice for War Refugees
  • Peace and Justice for Child Soldiers
  • Self-Forgiveness Process and Intervention Research
  • Peace and Justice in International Contexts
  • Moral Injury and Forgiveness in Humanitarian Disaster Contexts (see also )
  • Religious and Spiritual Aspects of Peace and Social Justice (see also )
  • Clinical Judgment Errors and Stereotype Threat in Multicultural Assessment
