Wheaton College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. The teacher education program is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). The most recent site visit for accreditation was in November 2014. Teacher candidates graduating from Wheaton programs meet requirements for an initial Professional Educator License (PEL) in the State of Illinois. To complete Illinois licensure requirements, teacher candidates must successfully pass the Illinois Licensure Testing System Test of Academic Proficiency (TAP) which can also be met through a waiver due to an ACT or SAT score, a Subject-Matter Knowledge Test, and the edTPA.
