All residential graduate students at HoneyRock learn and serve in teams as program and support role coordinators in this “leadership laboratory.” They also lead and facilitate the “place apart” experience as retreat staff for our guests at HoneyRock. They are guided and mentored by experienced professional staff who are industry leaders in their field and help integrate theory and practice as a core part of their training and development.

Based at HoneyRock year-round, this team works under the supervision of the High School Adventure Program Manager to Coordinate one of six key roles listed below. Responsibilities include program planning and facilitation; discipleship of campers and Vanguards; hiring and supervision of seasonal staff; and complementing other team roles. The positions may be attached to other strategic roles that suit the GA and best serve the needs of HoneyRock. Applicants for these positions must be willing to work at HoneyRock the summer preceding the September start date in pre-GA onboarding roles. The roles are:
2:22 Program Coordinator
Coordinates the 2:22 High School program which includes school year discipleship of campers. Helps support Wheaton Passage-Wilderness track in August.
Service Team Program Coordinator
Coordinates the Service Team program in summer, and coordinates all camp based service projects during the year for Site and Facilities.
Retreat Program Coordinator
Coordinates all church, youth, college and school retreats at HoneyRock throughout the year. During the summer, runs non-Wheaton retreats, and focuses on recruiting, promoting, and developing the September to April retreat ministry.
Wilderness Tripping Program Coordinator
Coordinates wilderness trips during the school year, and runs the Voyageur program during the summer. Provides trip related support throughout, including managing trip equipment and supplies, program planning and logistics, wilderness trip protocols, routes and permits.
Venture Program Coordinator
Coordinates the Venture program including planning, marketing and recruiting participants, and staff in the school year. In summer the GA facilitates the program and supports Wheaton Passage in August.
Challenge Course Program Coordinator
Coordinates the HoneyRock Challenge Course, serving all summer camp programs. Coordinates school year activities for resident programs such as Vanguards and graduate students, and for non-resident guests from visiting schools, churches, colleges and other organizations. Previous challenge course training and certification preferred but not required.

Assistant Counselor and Wheaton Retreats Coordinator
Coordinates the Assistant Counselors high school program at HoneyRock where resident during the summer. Located in Wheaton during the school year and coordinates administrative and registration needs of the Wheaton HoneyRock office. Coordinates all Wheaton College retreats at HoneyRock.
Residential Camps Coordinator
Based in Wheaton during the school year to help coordinate the Wheaton-based adventure trip program and assist with Wheaton-based student and camper recruitment efforts. Moves to HoneyRock to coordinate Residential Camps in the summer.
Activity Areas Program Coordinator
This position is resident at HoneyRock throughout the year, and coordinates all winter and summer activity areas. This involves hiring, training and supervising 15 Activities staff who serve all programs at camp each summer.
Advance Camp Coordinator
Based in Wheaton during the school year to help coordinate Wheaton-based adventure trips and assist with student and camper recruitment efforts. Moves to HoneyRock in summer to Coordinate the Advance Camp program.
Serving under the oversight of the Site Manager, this HoneyRock based team of GA’s integrates facilities and ranch work with formational ministry and discipleship as they work with campers, Vanguards, and seasonal staff. They work closely with professional staff who are experts in these crucial camp roles. Preferred onboarding for the positions takes place by serving with the team the summer preceding graduate school start. The roles are:
Equestrian Programs Coordinator
Works under the direct supervision of the Ranch Supervisor to assist in all aspects of the HoneyRock equestrian program. Helps select, train, supervise, and disciple summer staff wranglers. Previous equestrian experience is preferred.
Site and Sustainability Coordinator
Works with the Site Manager to perform facility maintenance, assist with grounds care, trail maintenance, activity area support, and snow removal. Works with onsite Sustainability Supervisor (an expert in creation care and sustainability) to coordinates the growing HoneyRock sustainability initiative. During the summer they assist with training and supervision of summer site/facility staff.
Vanguard Gap Year Coordinators (2 Positions)
These positions help coordinate the Vanguard GAP Year Program under the supervision of the Vanguard Manager. The GA’s are involved in marketing and recruiting Vanguards as well as the day to day, ongoing discipleship, and coordination of the program. They also help recruit, supervise and care for the Vanguard staff. In the summer, these positions coordinate the summer internship program with 10-15 interns from a variety of colleges. Applicants must be willing to begin their role in late July/early August for training for the year ahead, and may consider other seasonal summer roles at HoneyRock from earlier.
The business operations team interacts with a variety of HoneyRock constituents while serving the financial, administrative, and promotional areas of HoneyRock. These positions may be attached to a second listed assistantship that suits the bearer and best serves the needs of HoneyRock.
Research and Passage Assistant
This GA works closely with the Research and Passage Manager to support the 3CA partnership research as well as all HoneyRock related research and evaluation projects. Responsibilities include literature search and reviewing, data collection and organization, presenting results and related administrative tasks.
Retail Services/Business Administration Assistant
This position oversees the HoneyRock camp store, under the direction of the Food Services Manager. The GA is responsible for sustaining a business plan for the store that includes growing the coffee shop, maintaining a dynamic stock, related procurement, and developing innovations such as online shopping for store products. This role also works in the office supporting human resources, accounting, and other administrative projects.
Build an incredible professional portfolio by telling the story of HoneyRock and Wheaton College through creative and compelling photos and videos. Work closely with the Marketing Specialist for HoneyRock to manage our social media channels; lead the summer media team to capture the experience of youth and young adults; and stay ahead of and contribute to social media trends in the field of camp and higher education
