Maggie Rothrock, B.A.

Online Operations Coordinator and Graduate Student Consultant

Maggie worked with the Writing Center for two years while a student at Wheaton, first as a consultant and then as Student Manager. In her more than a hundred consultations, she fell in love with the Center, researching best practices to improve the training of Wheaton’s consultants and co-leading a workshop for the Chicagoland Writing Center Peer Tutors Conference at DePaul University in 2019. After graduating from Wheaton with a B.A. (‘20) in English Writing, Maggie served as an Americorps member with City Year Chicago, practicing one-on-one education in a low-income public elementary school. She is currently pursuing her M.A. in Writing, Rhetoric and Discourse with DePaul University, and hopes to continue supporting writers through professional, research-based education in the future.

In Maggie’s work as a consultant, she loves empowering others to see the value in their work and providing them with actionable steps to highlight those strengths. Outside her work as a graduate student and consultant, Maggie enjoys anything creative, from playing piano to reading and writing in many genres.

For Maggie, writing is like “prayer. Bravely you write out the thoughts that make you most vulnerable, understanding that they are messy and imperfect and need work. It is only when the words are in front of you that you can begin to make sense of them, molding them into a story where their value and beauty become more evident and their weaknesses become avenues of grace.”
