For Joshua, writing is like "cooking. Before cooking something you need to gather ingredients and have a good idea of what you want to make and how to make it. You can follow a recipe exactly, or you can be creative. However, veering too far off the recipe will not produce good results. Therefore, creativity or style needs to be well monitored. You can add more of some ingredients than others to create particular flavors and textures. Most importantly, like writing, with more time comes more experience. With this in mind, the newer someone is at cooking or writing, the more he or she should adhere to the recipe or assignment format, and with more time and experience, opportunities to be creative and implement a particular voice or style will come."
