Spring 2011 Events
On January 17, 2011, served Chinese takeout food and arranged for three recent Wheaton graduates who are law students in the Chicago area to speak about their law school experience and answer questions.
On January 20, 2011, in cooperation with the Wheaton Center for Faith, Politics and Economics, arranged for Prof. David Skeel of the University of Pennsylvania Law School to give a lecture entitled “Making Sense of the New Financial Deal” on the Dodd-Frank Act. Prof. Skeel also participated in an informal roundtable to answer questions from students about law school.
On February 24, 2011, served pizza and arranged for Prof. James Gash of the Pepperdine University Law School to conduct a mock law school class on a free speech case and then talk about law school admissions.
On March 30, 2010, arranged for Prof. John Nagle of the Notre Dame School of Law to give the Kamm Memorial Lecture entitled “Making Environmental Law Humble: The Relationship Between Christian Virtues, Protecting Creation, and Using Law.” Prof. Nagle also had lunch with several students.
2009-2010 Events
On September 17, 2009, arranged for Richard Baker, an alumnus and partner in Mauck & Baker, to give a lecture entitled “Hate Speech: On a Collision Course with Free Speech?”
On September 25, 2009, organized a trip to the Cabrini Green Legal Aid Clinic’s benefit dinner in downtown Chicago. Douglas Colber, a Wheaton alumnus, donated three tables.
On October 24, 2009, worked with the Career Services Office to organize and publicize a Kaplan-proctored LSAT practice test.
On January 18, 2010, worked with the student leader of the Pre-Law Society to organize a pre-law panel and dinner consisting of Daniel Morriss (Wheaton 05 and DePaul Law 08), a litigation associate at Hinshaw & Culbertson in Chicago, and Joy Wolf (Wheaton 06 and Chicago-Kent Law 11), a third year law student.
On January 28, 2010, organized a training session led by Administer Justice, a Christian non-profit legal aid provider, for students interested in volunteering at a new, monthly legal aid clinic at the Wheaton Bible Church.
On February 20, 2010, worked with the Career Services Office to organize and publicize a Kaplan-proctored LSAT practice test.
On March 26, 2010, arranged for Prof. Dru Stevenson, an alumnus of Wheaton College and a professor at the South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas, to present a mock criminal law class and meet with pre-law students over lunch and during office hours.
On March 27, 2010, worked with the student leader of the Pre-Law Society to organize an LSAT logic games seminar led by a 99th percentile (on the LSAT) instructor from PowerScore, a commercial provider of LSAT preparation services.
On April 12, 2010, arranged for Prof. Barbara Armacost of the University of Virginia School of Law to give the Kamm Memorial Lecture entitled “Lawyers as Kingdom Citizens in an Age of Terror.” Prof. Armacost also met with pre-law students over lunch and informal roundtable discussion on law school and law school admissions.
