The Next Generation Science Standards are changing the way science is taught from Kindergarden through 12th grade. With Illinois being one of the leading states in writing and creating the new standards, Wheaton is preparing its science teachers to lead the way in implementing this new way of teaching. Illinois formally adopted the NGSS as their state science standards in May 2014. As such, our science education program implements and uses these standards as the basis for our unit and lesson planning in all areas of science K-12th grade.
The Next Generation Science Standards focus more on skills, collaboration and the application of science to real world concepts. Wheaton students are learning how to ignite a passion for science in their students while building up their problem-solving skills.
