The Wheaton College Science Station in the Black Hills of South Dakota provides opportunities for exploring and studying geology. Studies are not limited to the Black Hills however. Field trips into Wyoming include visits to the Bighorn Mountains, Yellowstone, and Grand Teton National Park.

The Wheaton College Science Station serves as the residential base camp for the geology program's yearly field camp. A core component of any geology program, Wheaton College's field camp provides majors with experience in field methodology and regional geology studies. Mapping exercises based on local geologic features give students the opportunity to synthesize their knowledge of rocks and minerals with structural and stratigraphic concepts to gain a thorough understanding of the regional geology in the Black Hills.
