Since 2009, Karen Felker has had the great opportunity to work as the Clinical Placement Coordinator, Licensure Officer, and Instructor of Education in the Education Department. She taught elementary education for nine years in Community Unit School District 200. She is successful at maintaining and building positive, strong partnerships with the surrounding public and private school districts and Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) Licensure Division. Karen secures placements and ensures protocols are followed for teacher candidates completing required practica in 30+ surrounding public and private schools: grades K-12. Also, she oversees the IL Teacher Licensure Entitlement process for Wheaton College’s students and graduates. Her effective communication and collaboration are a benefit for those seeking state licensure reciprocity and transferring their teaching license out-of-state.

By having the opportunity to teach and supervise college students in becoming excellent teachers and role models for students, she keeps up with the present teaching practices.  She continues to use her research and elementary teaching skills by conducting mentoring and training in literacy/language arts. She has previously taught courses at Wheaton College such as Early Childhood Education, Literacy Assessment, and Theories and Methods of Teaching Language Arts.
