Denise Kerns

Program Assistant, Ann Haskins Special Education Program

On Staff since 2017

Denise Kerns is the program assistant for the Ann Haskins Special Education Program. She works with Dr. Thomas Boehm to help improve outcomes for families impacted by disability. Specifically, she works to develop relationships with local schools, arrange student placements in special education settings, and coordinate events associated with Wheaton’s new Faith and Disability Think Tank.

She worked for a number of years in social services with deaf people, both as an advocate and as a freelance sign language interpreter before joining the Wheaton College staff in 1998 to work in media relations. In 2001, she and her husband moved to northern Wisconsin to join the staff of HoneyRock, Wheaton’s Outdoor Center for Leadership Development. While in Wisconsin, Denise started and ran her own business for ten years before moving back to the Wheaton area in 2016.

She and her husband Don have two adult children, one son-in-law and two grandchildren. They enjoy bike riding and inviting people to their home to share a meal and conversation.
