Alfonse Borysewicz is an artist who also studied philosophy at the Jesuit University of Detroit and trained for the priesthood. His work draws deeply from several Christian traditions, most notably Byzantine and Orthodox iconography. Rather than copying these traditions, he infuses them into the dialog of contemporary art, creating a bridge of understanding between the two.  He has exhibited in contemporary art galleries and religious institutions both nationally and internationally. He has won both the Pollock-Krasner Foundation fellowship and a Guggenheim Fellowship in his storied career.
