Faculty Profiles

The Revd Dr. James M. Arcadi is rector (senior pastor) of All Souls Anglican Church in Wheaton, IL. A native of Southern California, Dr. Arcadi is a graduate of Biola University where he was a member of the Torrey Honors College, Biola’s great books program. He did his seminary training at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary where he completed an MDiv and a ThM in Historical Theology, focusing on the sacramental theology of Thomas Cranmer. His PhD is from the University of Bristol where he wrote on the doctrine of the Eucharist, later published by Cambridge University Press as An Incarnational Model of the Eucharist. Dr. Arcadi has held research positions at The Analytic Theology Project at Fuller Theological Seminary (2015-18), The Jewish Philosophical Theology Project at the Hertzl Institute (2015-17), and The Creation Project at the Carl F.H. Henry Center for Theological Understanding (2022). His research has been supported by numerous grants from the John Templeton Foundation, the Lilly Endowment, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities. He has held teaching positions at Gordon College, Fuller Theological Seminary, and, prior to his current positions, was Associate Professor of Biblical and Systematic Theology at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. 

Dr. Arcadi’s research, writing, and teaching is at the crowded intersection of biblical studies, philosophy, historical theology, and practical theology all heading toward constructive systematic theological ends. He has been a leader in the recent approach to systematic theology known as Analytic Theology. This methodology utilizes the tools, resources and sensibilities of contemporary analytic philosophy for constructive theological ends. This work has resulted in numerous journal publications as well as in books he has written, co-written, and co-edited such as, The Nature and Promise of Analytic Theology (Brill, 2019), Love, Divine and Human (T&T Clark, 2019), the T&T Clark Handbook to Analytic Theology (T&T Clark, 2021), and Analyzing Prayer (Oxford, 2022). Dr. Arcadi recently completed a study of the doctrine of holiness, Holiness: Divine and Human (Fortress/Lexington, 2023). His teaching has focused on core doctrinal areas such as Prolegomena, Christology, Sacramental Theology, and Theological Anthropology.

Dr. Arcadi is ordained in the Anglican Church in North America and has served in parishes in Massachusetts, California, and Illinois.
