Scholarship Basics

  • Pays full tuition and mandatory fees.
  • Pays $600 per semester for books and supplies.
  • Pays a monthly stipend directly to the Cadet in the amount of $420.
  • Must be U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be between the ages of 17 and 31 upon graduation.
  • High School Students must have a cumulative GPA above 2.5 and SAT greater than 920 or ACT great than 19.
  • College students must have a cumulative GPA above 2.5 and be a full-time student
  • Must be physically fit
  • Must be able to meet the Army height and weight standards or meet body fat percent standards.
  • Must be able to pass a Department of Defense Physical

Types of Scholarships

  • High School seniors have until January 10 to apply for an Army ROTC four-year scholarship. Applications can be started as early as February of your junior year.
  • The first Cadet Command scholarship board meets in October of your senior year, so if you wait until January of your senior year to submit your application, you will have missed the first two scholarship boards.   • Student must meet all eligibility criteria outlined above.
  • Available to students that are interested in pursuing a career with the National Guard or Army Reserves.
  • This scholarship is ideal for students wanting to guarantee a duty station in the state from which they reside or wish to reside.
  • Student is required to participate in the Simultaneous Membership Program with the National Guard or Army Reserves, which automatically grants them Sergeant/E-5 pay on weekend drills. SMP cadets are paid approximately $290 per month for their monthly drills, which is in addition to their scholarship benefits.
  • Students are not eligible to utilize Chapter 1606 or 1607 GI Bill benefits with a three-year GRFD scholarship.
  • Students may utilize Chapter 30 (active duty) GI Bill benefits with a three-year GRFD scholarship.
  • Student must have three years left in college.
  • Student must agree to accept a commission in the National Guard or Army Reserves. Student understands that active duty is no longer an option.
  • Same a three-year GRFD scholarship, except student may utilize Chapter 1606 or 1607 benefits, if entitled.
  • Student must have two years left in college.
  • Campus-based scholarships can be 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5 or 4-year scholarships.
  • Campus-based scholarships are originated on campus for students that are interested in an ROTC scholarship, who meet the basic ROTC scholarship eligibility requirements, but other scholarships listed above do not apply.
  • Cadet Command approves funding for campus-based scholarships.
  • Student must be enrolled in a Military Science/ROTC course to submit an application for a campus-based scholarship.

  • Three and Two Year campus based
  • Three and Two Year Green to Gold
    • For active duty enlisted soldiers getting a Bachelors Degree
  • Two year Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty (GRFD)
  • Two to Three year Dedicated Army Reserve National Guard (DedARNG)

 

Scholarship Benefits

Scholarship Considerations

  • Academics
    • General
      • GPA of 2.5
      • Has to take either the ACT or SAT
      • High school diploma
    • Campus Based Scholarships
      • College cumulative GPA must be 2.5 or higher
      • Three year applicant must have 27 credit hours complete by the end of the school year
      • Two year applicant must have 54 credit hours complete by the end of the school year
  • Extracurricular Activities (the more the better)
    • Sports
    • Clubs
    • Church
    • Work
    • Volunteer
  • Professor of Military Science Interview
  • Pass a Medical exam (no cost to applicant)

Requirements in ROTC

  • Freshman/Sophomore Year
    • Leadership LAB (LLAB) and the Military Science class
      • Every Thursday at Wheaton College's Jenks Hall
    • Physical Training
      • Meets 3 days a week from 0600-0715
      • Fitness training offered at Wheaton College or Lewis University, whichever is closer to your school. 
    • Field Training Exercise (FTX)
      • One weekend a Semester
  • Juniors/Seniors
    • Same as Freshman/Sophomore Years
    • Leadership roles at LLAB, PT, FTXs
    • Leadership Development Assessment Course
      • Advanced Camp
      • Takes place at Ft. Knox, KY

Obligations

  • Freshman and Sophomores who are not on a scholarship have no service obligation (received no benefits)
  • Scholarship and Contracted Cadets
    • In order to receive a scholarship you must sign a contract obligating you to service
    • Obligation will either be:
      • 4 years Active duty, followed by 4 years Reserve or National Guard duty, or
      • 8 years Reserve or National Guard duty

    • Same as Freshman/Sophomore Years
    • Leadership roles at LLAB, PT, FTXs
    • Leadership Development Assessment Course
      • Month long camp normally taken between Junior and Senior year
      • Takes place at Ft. Lewis, WI
