Lyman Kellstedt, Ph.D.

Lyman 'Bud' Kellstedt was a professor of Political Science at Wheaton College from 1981 to 2001. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. Prior to teaching at Wheaton College he also taught at Georgetown University, the State University of New York at Buffalo (University at Buffalo), and the University of Illinois at Chicago.

He has co-authored many books including Religion and the Culture Wars (1996), The Bully Pulpit (1997), Rediscovering the Religious Factor in American Politics (2016), and Evangelicals and Immigration: Fault Lines Among the Faithful (2018). 

In 2023, the APSA Religion and Politics Section awarded Dr. Kellstedt the Inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award, meant for scholars who have contributed to the field in profound ways through their research, mentorship, and service. In 2007, a Wheaton College scholarship was established in his honor for students interested the systematic study of religion and politics.
