SLA Schedules and Costs

Fully online SLA courses for pre-field and on-field personnel

SLA for Beginning Learners 

Offered six times each year, this course is six weeks in length and requires about 3-4 hours per day, Monday through Friday, for half-time study. If you have scheduling conflicts (e.g., training events with your organization, language courses, work commitments), please email us about extending the course completion date. If you are registering later than three weeks before a course begins, email us first to make sure we still have spaces available. See our Registration Procedures.

2018 Schedule

  • January 8 - February 16
  • March 12 - April 20
  • May 14 - June 22
  • June 25 - August 3
  • September 10 - October 19
  • October 29 - December 7

Cost: Non-credit registration: $1100 per person ($1150 for registration within three weeks of starting date), plus materials, which are $40 for one person or $60 per couple, including shipment to an address within the U.S. Additional cost for mailing materials outside the U.S. For most participants an additional expense will be paying a language helper (a native speaker of another language) for approximately ten hours.

For-credit registration is also available for the May 14 - June 22 class and possibly for the June 25 - August 3 class.

 

SLA for Continuing Learners

Offered six times each year, this course is offered in two formats: a) six weeks in length requiring about 3-4 hours per day, Monday through Friday; or b) twelve weeks in length requiring about 1-2 hours per day, Monday through Friday. If you have scheduling conflicts (e.g., training events with your organization, language courses, work commitments), please email us about extending the course completion date. If you are registering later than three weeks before a course begins, email us first to make sure we still have spaces available. See our Registration Procedures.

Just-in-Time Second Language Acquisition

Since this course begins with the 3-week online Introduction to Language Learning course, you may begin on any of the dates listed above for that course. If you are registering later than three weeks before the course begins, email us first to make sure we still have spaces available. The final three weeks of online instruction will be scheduled on an individual basis at a time that is convenient for you. See our Registration Procedures.

Cost: Non-credit only: $1400 per person ($1450 for registration within three weeks of starting date), which includes materials. In addition, you may work with a language helper (a native speaker of another language) for approximately 4-5 hours. This is not included in the course fee.

 

Introduction to Language Learning

Offered six times each year, this course is normally three weeks in length and requires about 3-4 hours per day, Monday through Friday, for half-time study. However, for those who are engaged in on-field language learning or have other heavy commitments, it can be extended an additional three weeks, for a total of six weeks. If you are registering later than three weeks before the course begins, email us first to make sure we still have spaces available. See our Registration Procedures.
