Overview
Wheaton
in Chicago gives students of every discipline a chance to
spend a semester living and working in the city of Chicago.
It is ideal for anyone interested in the causes and consequences of urban conditions, those who have considered living or working
in a large city, and those who simply want to experience
city life for a short period of time. While many students
go into Chicago for ministry or for cultural events, the Wheaton
in Chicago program gives students the opportunity to learn about the city, to become
a short-term resident of Chicago, and to live incarnationally within an
urban community.
Through
classes, internships, and field trips, Wheaton in Chicago
equips students to grapple with the complexities of an increasingly
urbanized world. Students live in college-owned apartments where they experience the support,
encouragement, and challenge of peers and staff necessary
for truly engaging their new life in the city. Dynamic classes,
taught by professors from campus, and practitioners from Chicago
give students a theoretical
for understanding urban issues. Students
live in one of Chicago's most diverse neighborhoods, learn their way around on
public transportation, develop friendships with the people in their
neighborhood and at their internship site, visit
different churches, ministries, and community organizations
on a weekly basis, and take advantage of the citys
wide range of museums, theaters, and musical venues.
Wheaton
in Chicago truly asks the students to LIVE what they LEARN
in everyday life. Students come away from the semester with
an increased ability to navigate complex urban issues. And they
come away changed.
