Visitor Information

Directions and Parking

The Wade Center is located at 351 Lincoln Avenue, on the corner of Lincoln and Washington streets. Parking is available across the street from the Wade Center in the parking lot north of Edman Chapel. There are designated spots for Wade Center visitors. If this area is full, you may park in the “C-W” portion of the lot. Parking in the rest of the “C-W” portion of the lot may result in a non-registration notice. Visitors may return this notice to the parking office at no charge. A researcher or visitor planning to visit one week or more at the Wade Center is eligible to receive a temporary parking permit at no charge.  NOTE: Please avoid parking in Handicapped and Student 60-minute spaces. You will be ticketed for these two areas.

Meals

Bon Appétit/Anderson Commons Dining Hall is located in the Beamer Center: serves full meals, has salad and sandwich bars. Hours vary by season. The Stupe and Stupe Grill are located on the lower level of the Beamer Center, and serve pizza, ice cream, sandwiches, bagels, yogurt, coffee, baked goods, and snacks. Restaurants: There are several restaurants within walking distance of the college in downtown Wheaton. Visitors with a car will find a variety of dining establishments available within a short drive. See www.downtownwheaton.com

Bookstore

The Wheaton College bookstore, located in the Student Services Building, sells many of the current editions of works by and about the Wade Center authors. Office and study supplies are also available. Hours: See www.wheatonbooks.com or call 630/752-5119.  In addition, the Wade Center has its own small sales area, with unique items related to our authors.

College Post Office (CPO)

Located in the lower level of the Beamer Center. Hours: Monday-Friday 8 am – 3:45 pm; closed Saturdays and Sundays. 630/752-5083

Accommodations

Rooms: For rooms in private homes, contact the Housing Services Office at Wheaton College, 630/752-5427 or housingservices@wheaton.edu. The staff will provide you with a list of available local rooms. Some homes are within walking distance of the college. NOTE: Rooms in homes do not always have a private bath. Please inquire.

Hotels: See http://www.wheaton.edu/hotels.html No hotels are within walking distance of the college. The closest ones are in Carol Stream, Glen Ellyn, and Naperville.

Transportation

O’Hare International Airport: Car rentals and limousine services (see below) are available at the airport.

Directions to Wheaton from O’Hare:
Exit O’Hare and take I-294 South (Indiana)
Travel along I-294 South to I-88 Tollway West
Take I-88 West to the Naperville Rd. exit
Travel 3.7 miles to Roosevelt Rd.
Turn right on Roosevelt Rd. and immediately turn left on Washington St.
Cross railroad track and continue N. on Washington 5 blocks to Lincoln

Midway Airport: Flights into Midway are often less expensive than flights into O’Hare. Check with your airline. Car rentals and limousine services are available at the airport.

Directions to Wheaton from Midway:
Exit terminal parking lot left onto Cicero Ave.
Cicero Ave. North to I-55 South
Travel on I-55 South to I-355 North
Take I-355 North to Roosevelt Rd. exit
Turn left on Roosevelt Rd.
Travel 3.1 miles to Washington St. and turn right
Cross railroad tracks and continue N. on Washington 5 blocks to Lincoln

Limousines:

West Suburban Limousines (http://www.westsublimo.com/) is recommended for transportation to/from airports if not renting a car. Cost to and from Wheaton runs about $40-$50, plus tip.

Procedure: Phone for a reservation, 630/668-9600 or toll-free 1-800- 345-5466, having on hand your flight information (airline, flight number, arrival/departure time, and number of passengers). Once you arrive at the airport and gather your luggage, use a public phone to call the Airport Pickup number, 1-800-942-5466. (No money is necessary, since it is an “800” number.) The limo company will tell you where to wait at the airport and will then drive you to the address where you are staying.

Bluebird Limousine: is a shared ride limo and luxury sedan service to/from O’Hare and Midway. Advance reservations: 630/961 - 5500 From airport with advanced reservation, call 1-800-851-0200. Fares:  O'Hare to/from Wheaton $35.00, Midway to/from Wheaton $42.00 (additional person $7.00 if on same reservation)

Taxicabs:

Trains:

See website www.metrarail.com for fares and schedules of METRA trains that go to and from Chicago. The line to Wheaton College is the Union Pacific West line.

Chicago Station, Ogilvie Transportation Center: Corner of North Canal & West Madison Sts. Ticket windows on 2nd level. Info: 312/322-6777 or 312/836-7000 weekdays from 8-5.

College Ave. Station: 4 blocks east of the college (recommended stop).

Wheaton Station: 8 blocks west of the college.
