The Urban Studies Certificate
Any Wheaton student can receive an Urban Studies certificate after completing a flexible curriculum consisting of 21 urban-related credit hours.  All Urban Studies credit hours can be double counted as credit towards the completion of either General Education or major course requirements.  Completion of the certificate indicates that a student has completed a concentration in Urban Studies alongside his or her major, demonstrating a degree of academic expertise and knowledge of urban structures, institutions and issues.  It is particularly valuable for students who plan to go into urban related careers or further graduate studies in an urban related field.

There are two options for completing the certificate: an on-campus program and Wheaton in Chicago.  Both require that students take URBN 231, Chicago, which serves as the introduction to Urban Studies.  The course is offered every semester during B quad. Both also require completion of the integration seminar, a one credit independent study which serves as a program capstone.
