Sean Young
Sean Young is the Assistant Director of the Urban Studies Program. Most recently he served as the Director of Residence Life at the Contemporary Music Center in Massachusetts. Prior to that, he was the residential director of another urban studies program in Chicago. His education has been focused on intercultural studies and community development in a missions context. In his work over the last four years in study-abroad programs, he has focused primarily on student development issues in the context of cross-cultural work and mobilizing students for ministry, social justice, and relevant cultural engagement.
Education M.A. Asbury Theological Seminary, World Missions and Evangelism, 1999 B.S. Roberts Wesleyan College, Physics and Pre-Med, 1993 Professional and Personal Interests While in seminary, Sean focused most of his coursework on International Community Development and Intercultural Studies. Since finishing, however, his interests have broadened to include looking at how these subjects relate to the American urban context. Post-graduate research opportunities with urban ministries in Boston have allowed him to study more closely how churches and para church organizations operate in cities. Alongside this, he has taken a personal interest in facilitating classes, seminars, and discussion groups on the intersection of contemporary culture, Christian faith, and art particularly as they affect a diverse urban community. An avid outdoors lover, he spends much of his free time camping and hiking, climbing, and mountain biking. Since graduating from college in 1993 he has been able to travel both domestically and internationally for mission and volunteer projects and is looking forward to continuing to do so during the summers.
